A.B. According to Steve Buckley, Boston Red Sox legend Johnny Pesky has died today at the age of 92. Pesky, who had a .307 lifetime batting average played a total of 10 years in big leagues, 8 of them with the Red Sox.
64 years after joining the Red Sox, at the beginning of the 2005 MLB season, Pesky was honored with a 2004 World Series ring. It was not only a special moment for Pesky but also for Red Sox fans across the nation. No one experienced the highs & lows like Pesky, who was always involved with the team and loved by the players.
However with Pesky’s passing, there is a silver lining. The right field foul pole in Fenway Park will continue to be known as Pesky’s Pole forever. A fitting way to always honor a man who loved the Red Sox with all his being.
RIP Mr. Pesky.
